GPhC has statistics on the number of counterfeit pills it has received and tells stories on the men who receive them.
“I received one counterfeit Viagra, received two fake pills, received three fake pills, received four fake pills,” says John Breslin, a pharmacy technician at Great Britain’s GreatBurick. “The pills contained a substance that could have been a real pill. It was something I had to buy.”
The counterfeit pills, Breslin says, “were made out of a different type of material, namely, plaster.”
Breslin says the U. S. is the only industrialized country to allow online pharmacies to sell fake Viagra. It’s only been on the market a few months.
Those fake Viagra pills, Breslin says, are manufactured by Pfizer. They’re available without a prescription at a significantly reduced price, he adds.
But because of counterfeit drug laws in other developed countries, Breslin says the counterfeit pills still have the right to be found.
“Fake Viagra is not a magic pill, it’s a medicine that will cure a problem,” Breslin says.
He says the counterfeit pills are meant to be used by men who have trouble with reality. They are meant to be used by men who have heart problems or diabetes, he says.
Many of the counterfeit Viagra pills have labels that say, “Do not use if you have a heart condition,” or “erectile dysfunction.”
The fake pills are meant to be sold without a prescription. But they may not be for everyone.
People who are trying to buy Viagra online should exercise caution, says Dr. Jane Smith, the medical director of the U. National Institutes of Health.
“There are a number of things that could happen that are dangerous and can result in serious harm,” Smith says.
Smith says people who take nitrates for chest pain or have a heart condition can get heart attacks and strokes. Nitrates can make it harder for blood to flow to the penis, causing it to become smaller, Smith says.
Heart problems can also put an extra strain on your heart, Smith says.
Smith says people with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or high blood sugar should talk to their doctor before starting treatment with Viagra, because the medicine can make them feel dizzy or sleepy.
“If you take Viagra and it makes you sleepy, dizzy or sleepy, you’re taking a dangerous drug,” Smith says.
Viagra is sold over-the-counter at most brick-and-mortar pharmacies, Smith says.
The counterfeit pills, she adds, are meant to be used by men who have heart problems or diabetes, he says.
Breslin says Pfizer, who makes Viagra, can sell the fake Viagra online without a prescription. But because the U. is the only industrialized country to allow online pharmacies to sell fake Viagra, Breslin says the counterfeit pills still have the right to be found.
Smith says those counterfeit Viagra pills may not even be as effective as the original product.
Smith says the FDA has approved only about 40,000 Viagra pills, but many others are rejected because they can’t be bought over the counter.
“The FDA has said that over-the-counter Viagra is not safe,” Smith says. “But it may be possible to buy Viagra online without a prescription.”
Smith says Pfizer is working with some distributors to improve the quality of the counterfeit Viagra.
“We have worked with some distributors to improve the quality of Viagra,” Smith says.
Pfizer, however, says that it has received more than 600,000 complaints about counterfeit Viagra.
“We’ve received hundreds of thousands of complaints,” says Ian Read, Pfizer’s chief operating officer.

Viagra (sildenafil citrate) is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. The mechanism of action of Viagra involves inhibiting the enzyme PDE5, which is responsible for breaking down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). When cGMP is made more active, it relaxes the blood vessels in the penis, allowing increased blood flow and resulting in an erection. Viagra works by inhibiting PDE5, thus increasing the amount of cGMP in the bloodstream. This increased blood flow is what leads to an erection.

One in ten men over the age of 50 suffer from erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or maintain an erection long enough to perform sexual intercourse. It can be caused by various factors, including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, certain lifestyle factors, and psychological issues like anxiety and depression. Diabetes is linked to a higher risk of ED. PDE5 inhibitors are used to treat ED by increasing the levels of a chemical called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which is responsible for breaking down cGMP. By inhibiting PDE5, Viagra can increase the amount of cGMP in the bloodstream, allowing increased blood flow and resulting in an erection.

These are not all the information we have about Viagra. It is important to talk to a doctor if you have any of these signs of ED, such as a sudden loss of vision, hearing loss, or prolonged erections. It is also important to talk to a doctor if you experience priapism (a prolonged, painful erection that can be irreversible) or have an erection that lasts more than four hours.
